The Burns Harbor was built and launched in October, 1979 at Sturgeon Bay, WI, becoming the second 1,000-footer in the Bethlehem Steel fleet, the "Cort" being the other. She is similar to the "Oglebay Norton" and "Indiana Harbor"and has the same 4 GM Diesel power plant. but is equipped with both bow and stern thrusters. She features a massive 250 foot unloading boom and can unload taconite pellets at a rate of 9000 tons per hour (per www.boatnerd.com), and her regular run consists of loading pellets at Superior, WS and hauling them to - Burns Harbor, IN. (She also features something else unique; her deckhouse is six decks high!)
